1st Ibero-American Symposium on Environment, Civil Aviation and Climate Change

Ambassador Todd Robinson participated in the inauguration of the 1st Ibero-American Symposium on Environment, Civil Aviation and Climate Change: Flying towards Sustainability.

In Montreal, during the 39th International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) assembly in September last year, Guatemala, Spain and the United States signed a trilateral partnership agreement: “Alliance for Sustainable Aviation” (ALAS), which will allow the exchange of best practices, training and cooperation in different areas related to the sustainable growth of aviation.

The Ambassador acknowledged the leadership of the Government of Guatemala in environmental aviation issues. He also emphasized the importance of how to effectively manage and resolve the outstanding challenges in this area, to facilitate economic growth. Promoting projects consistent with ICAO methodologies, developing mechanisms for accreditation of environmental management of airports and integrating environmental considerations into international aviation decision-making are the key objectives of the ALAS Agreement and it is hoped that this symposium will be a strong propeller of several issues that lead to its fulfillment.
