During his visit to Alta Verapaz, Ambassador Luis E. Arreaga met alumni of the Access English program, who shared their their entrepreneurship projects and their success stories with him. The parents of these young people, who participate in the different English programs supported by the State Department, shared with the Ambassador how the integral training that their children received, reinforced their leadership that allowed them to forge their future in Guatemala without having to opt to migrate illegally.
Ambassador Arreaga urged the students of the English programs to continue preparing themselves to achieve their dreams without having to leave their communities, and also emphasized the importance of protecting the learning cycle, so that others have the same opportunities and do not risk their lives with the illegal journey north.
Alumni of the SEAL Tourism program of Alta Verapaz showed the Ambassador their city on a tour that highlighted the rich Mayan history found in Cobán. He expressed the admiration and respect of Americans for Guatemalan culture and traditions.
