Ambassador Luis Arreaga visited the cities of Puerto Barrios and Livingston in the department of Izabal as part of the security and culture programs promoted by the Embassy.
In Livingston, the Ambassador visited the Model Police Precinct and talked with agents who are part of the program in the town. The operation of the monitoring center makes it possible to respond more efficiently to problems in the community. The Ambassador made a tour with the PMT and PNC bike patrol agents that shows the inter-institutional work with and for the community. This program is supported by U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Intl Narcotics & Law Enforcement (INL) GT.
The Ambassador also attended the concert of American percussionist LaFrae Sci and the Garifuna Percussion Orchestra in order to promote more participation spaces for Garífuna girls and women through the Arts.
In Puerto Barrios, the Ambassador participated in the inauguration of the Central American Conference of Best Practices for Model Police Stations, which brings together representatives of the US Government, local governments of Guatemala and the rest of the region, as well as police authorities of the isthmus. The strategic approach of the police stations includes the Combined Patrolling, the Surveillance Monitoring, programs for the prevention of the delinquency and investigations.
Lastly, he met with the Commander of the Navy Infantry Brigade of the Guatemalan Army, General Oliva, to talk about the support in Humanitarian Assistance and Security that the US military offers and coordinates with said institution.
