Ambassador William W. Popp
Holiday Message to U.S. Citizens in Guatemala
December 2022
Holiday greetings to all U.S. citizens in Guatemala. On behalf of the U.S. embassy community, my family and I are pleased to extend our warmest greetings and best wishes to you all.
The holiday season is a time for friends and family to honor and celebrate the things we cherish most. It’s time for joy and coming together. We hope you will celebrate safely.
In the spirit of the holidays, I invite you to join us in celebrating the U.S. and Guatemala’s joint efforts to improve the lives of all Guatemalans. Over the past year, millions of Guatemalans have been inoculated from COVID-19 with 8.5 million in US-donated Moderna vaccines.
U.S. citizens and Guatemalans are safer today due to our cooperation to cripple criminal networks and fortify security cooperation and the rule of law.
On the economic front, major U.S. companies have answered Vice President Kamala Harris’ Call to Action to stop irregular migration by creating prosperity, investing billions of dollars to create factories, expand services and add jobs that generate prosperity.
And in recent days we celebrated the return of Peace Corps volunteers to Guatemala in time for the program’s 60th year Anniversary in Guatemala.
Looking to the new year, in early 2023 we will open our new state-of-the-art new Embassy compound, built by over 1,800 of Guatemalan and American workers – a building that shows once again the strength of the United States’ commitment to working with Guatemala
Of course, our Embassy’s highest priority is to protect and support our U.S. citizen community. I know how important it is for U.S. citizens to travel and be with family and friends over the holidays. Our Consular team has been hard at work helping U.S. citizens renew their passports in time for holiday travel. We also continue to make every effort to process visas for many loved ones who are waiting to see their U.S. citizen family members in the United States. We look forward to continuing to serve U.S. citizens in Guatemala in 2023 and welcoming you to our New Embassy Campus in Zone 16 when it opens in February.
All of us in the U.S. mission are thankful for the opportunity to serve the United States overseas and we are especially grateful for our strong partnership with the Guatemalan people and U.S. citizens in Guatemala. Wherever and however, you are spending this special time of year, we wish you happy and healthy holidays!
