Event: According to media reports, Guatemala Army veterans have organized demonstrations and roadblocks across Guatemala today, January 20, to include in Guatemala City the Presidential House, Plaza de la Constitución, and National Palace (Zone 1). The exact locations of the demonstrations and roadblocks are not currently known. The Embassy will continue to review the security situation and will provide additional information as needed.

Kilometer 113 Cocales, Suchitepéquez.
Kilometer 178 Puente Castillo Armas, Retalhuleu.
Route CA-1 West
Kilometer 264 village Xinaxoj, Huehuetenango.
Route CA-14
Kilometer 132 summit of Santa Elena.
Route CA-9 North
Kilometer 136 Rio Hondo, Zacapa.
The Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens reconsider travel to these specific locations during this same time period, and remain alert to the possibility of demonstrations occurring at unanticipated times and locations. Demonstrations can quickly grow in size and often move from one location to another thus potentially disrupting movement.
Actions to Take:
- Review your personal security plans and remain aware of your surroundings, including local events.
- Monitor local news for updates.
- Maintain a high-level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities.
Avoid affected areas, and exercise caution.
