These programs are augmented by local opportunities in countries around that world that allow non-U.S. citizens to explore U.S. culture and the English language.

Our exchange programs engage youth, students, educators, artists, athletes, and rising leaders in the United States and more than 160 countries. In addition to exchange programs, ECA also administers a variety of other initiatives that support cultural understanding by protecting Cultural Heritage across the globe, and providing educational resources for people interested in learning about American culture and the English language. ECA is well known for its flagship exchange programs such as The Fulbright Program and International Visitor Leadership Program. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP)
The U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) supports the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects, and forms of traditional cultural expression in more than 100 developing countries around the world. AFCP-supported projects include the restoration of ancient and historic buildings, assessment and conservation of rare manuscripts and museum collections, preservation and protection of important archaeological sites, and the documentation of vanishing traditional craft techniques and indigenous languages.

Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE)
The Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) is a global initiative of the Government of the United States that provides an educational opportunity for enterprising women from diverse communities.
The English Access Microscholarship Program offers beginner to intermediate level courses for underprivileged youth, ages 14-16, through intensive learning classes and activities.
Community Engagement Exchange Program (CEE)
The Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) program is a dynamic global network of innovators working with communities to address critical 21st-century issues. CEE equips dedicated visionaries with the expertise, skills, and resources to develop multisector approaches and build healthy and engaged communities in over 100 countries. CEE is a yearlong program designed to enable civil society leaders, ages 21-28, to harness the power of networks, relationships, and information for the public good, specifically on issues related to civic dialogue and peacebuilding, open and participatory government, women and gender, resilience and sustainable development, and youth engagement.
Community Solutions Program (CSP)
The Community Solutions Program (CSP), sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and implemented by IREX, provides community leaders from around the world with an intensive professional development exchange program in the United States from August to December 2022. CSP fellows gain valuable experience in community work and strengthen their capacity for leadership and development in their home countries.
Every year, during the month of April, the U.S. Embassy invites professionals who have completed a licenciatura to apply for the Fulbright Scholarship program.
The Fulbright Program is one of the world’s most prestigious international educational exchanges. The mission of the program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through educational exchange.
The Global Undergraduate Exchange (Global UGRAD) program provides a diverse group of emerging student leaders with a scholarship for one semester of non-degree academic study at a U.S. college or university.
Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs)
The Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) are academic programs for mid-career student leaders, scholars, faculty, practitioners, and secondary educators whose purpose is to broaden knowledge of the United States, strengthen curricula, and improve teaching about the United States in institutions abroad. These Institutes are comprised of a four- to five-week academic residency and a one- to two-week educational study tour in various regions of the United States. During the program, fellows engage in rigorous academic coursework and panel discussions, interact and establish networks, and meet with experts in respective disciplines, visit civic institutions and, in some cases, participate in research symposia and conferences.
Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI)
The Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) builds linkages between young leaders across the hemisphere. YLAI addresses the opportunity gap for youth, especially women, by empowering business and social entrepreneurs with the training, tools, networks, and resources they need to transform their societies and contribute more fully to economic development and prosperity, security, human rights, and good governance in the hemisphere.
Professional Fellows Program (PFP) for Economic Empower
The Professional Fellows Program (PFP) is a two-way global exchange program designed to promote mutual understanding, enhance leadership and professional skills, as well as build lasting, sustainable partnerships between mid-level emerging leaders from foreign countries and the United States.
