Embassy of the United States Announces 2023 Call for Proposals
for the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP)

The United States Embassy in Guatemala announces the 2023 call for proposals for the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). This is a global initiative that reaffirms the United States Government’s commitment to the preservation and protection of cultural heritage.

The call for proposals for 2023 will be open from December 5, 2022 to January 5, 2023. Applicants may request funds between $10,000 and $500,000 to implement cultural heritage projects that meet all the requirements for consideration. Details of the AFCP 2023 and the application process are available here.

Since its launch in 2001, AFCP has been successfully executed in more than 100 countries around the world. Guatemala has received financing for 13 projects in the departments of Petén, Quiché, and Guatemala to support restoration and preservation work at archaeological sites, religious buildings, and museums. These projects both contribute to the creation of economic opportunities in their communities and demonstrate the United States’ continuing respect for the rich cultural heritage of Guatemala.
