Event: U.S. citizens in Guatemala are not currently able to directly return to the United States with expired U.S. passports.
Until further notice, travelers departing from Guatemala are required to travel on a valid U.S. passport, since Guatemalan regulations do not currently permit departure on an expired passport.
If you are traveling from another overseas location, and your passport expired on or after January 1, 2020, you may be able to use your expired passport to return directly to the United States until December 31, 2021. See this page for more information.
