Possible Threat of Increased Gang Violence

The U.S. Embassy notes that multiple Guatemalan media sources are reporting a possible threat of increased gang violence against several Government of Guatemala institutions. Embassy employees have been instructed that the following locations are off limits to all Mission Personnel until further notice: -National Police (PNC) Headquarters -Torre de Tribunales -Court facilities in Villa Nueva and Mixco -The Public Ministry (MP) -The National Prison System Administration and any prison/jail -San Juan de Dios Hospital -Roosevelt Hospital -National Police Hospital The Embassy recommends that private U.S. citizens in Guatemala also take appropriate precautions when considering travel to these locations.
