Location: Guatemala

Event: The U.S. Embassy has received reports of the following roadblocks, marches, and protests that are scheduled to occur in the following locations in Guatemala on Wednesday, April 6, 2022:

  • Totonicapán: Kilómetro 187.5, ruta Interamericana, sector Cuatro Caminos, San Cristóbal, Totonicapán and Kilómetro 187, ruta Interamericana, entrada a Coxom, San Cristóbal, Totonicapán
  • Sololá: Kilómetro 127, ruta Interamericana
  • Alta Verapaz: Cruce San Julián, Tactic
  • Baja Verapaz: Aldea La Cumbre de Santa Elena, San Jerónimo
  • Izabal: Kilómetro 245, cruce La Ruidosa, Morales
  • Zacapa: Kilómetro 147.5 cruce Puente Blanco, Zacapa
  • Jutiapa: Kilómetro 157.5, aldea Obraje Moyuta
  • Sacatepéquez: Entrada a la Antigua Guatemala
  • Escuintla: Cruce San Vicente Pacaya, Palín
  • El Progreso: Kilómetro 73, El Progreso
  • Guatemala: Calada Aguilar Batres, Zona 11
  • Petén: Frente a comercial Metro Plaza, Santa Elena, Flores and CA-13 Kilómetro 387, puente Machaquilá, Poptún, Petén

As always, the timing, size, and duration of planned demonstrations and roadblocks can change. Demonstrations can quickly grow in size and often move from one location to another, thus potentially disrupting movement. The Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens be aware and vigilant.  

Actions to Take:

  • Review your personal security plans and remain aware of your surroundings, including local events.
  • Monitor local news for updates.
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security, and follow instructions of local authorities.
  • Avoid affected areas, and exercise caution.
