for International Affairs, Thea Lee, visits Guatemala and Honduras,
June 27-July 2, 2022
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs, Thea Lee, is in Guatemala and Honduras this week meeting with government officials, as well as representatives of employers and workers to support efforts to promote decent work and to improve labor rights compliance under the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR).
The visit underscores the importance of the relationship between the United States and countries throughout the northern Central America region and highlights the priority the Biden-Harris administration places on addressing the root causes of migration.
During her visit, Lee will meet with the Guatemalan Minister of Labor, Rafael Rodriguez, as well as the Honduran Minister of Labor Sarahí Cerna and Vice Minister Emilson Motiño to discuss how to keep positive momentum on labor rights going in the two countries.
Lee will also meet with workers’ organizations from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to discuss the challenges they face, and ways the U.S. Department of Labor can support efforts to strengthen freedom of association, collective bargaining, safety and health, and other labor rights across the region.
