In an event held at the Guatemalan School of Nurses, the United States Government thanked the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance for its collaboration in the response to COVID-19 in Guatemala and delivered a batch of more than 770 thousand specialized syringes designed for the COVID-19 vaccine. With this donation, there are already 1,246,000 thousand syringes in Guatemala as a result of the United States’ COVID-19 support.
In his speech with the Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance, Dr. Amelia Flores, the Ambassador highlighted that U.S. support has included oxygen concentrators, supplies, tents, medicines, medical equipment and technology for laboratories, as well as technical assistance at all levels of clinical care.
Currently, cooperation is focused on efforts to increase vaccination in Guatemala, such as assisting in the installation of new vaccination posts, information campaigns to encourage the population to get vaccinated, and technical support to adapt strategies to achieve higher vaccination rates in rural areas.
