REF# 2020-7
Today, U.S. Ambassador to Guatemala Luis Arreaga, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei, Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA) Executive Director Juan Carlos Trabanino, and United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Director for the Western Hemisphere Nicholas Reyes signed an agreement facilitating FAA technical assistance to COCESNA’s member countries, including Guatemala. The new assistance is part of the FAA and COCESNA’s longstanding partnership, and will allow the FAA to work with COCESNA and member governments to strengthen aviation safety oversight, particularly by ensuring that oversight of commercial carriers adheres to international standards. Guatemala will be the first COCESNA member to receive the FAA’s assistance, followed by other countries throughout the region. After the signing ceremony U.S. Ambassador Luis Arreaga said “this agreement exemplifies the United States’ commitment to support vibrant and safe commercial aviation in Guatemala. Doing so will strengthen our countries’ already-strong trade, investment, and cultural connections.”
