A citizen of a foreign country who seeks to enter the United States generally must first obtain a U.S. visa, which is placed in the traveler’s passport, a travel document issued by the traveler’s country of citizenship or nationality.
Certain international travelers may be eligible to travel to the United States without a visa if they meet the requirements for visa-free travel under the Visa Waiver Program. The Visa section of this website is all about U.S. visas for foreign citizens to travel to the United States. If you cannot find what you are looking for here, please visit Travel.State.gov for additional information.
Note: U.S. citizens do not need a U.S. visa for travel to the United States, but when planning travel abroad a U.S. citizen may need a visa issued by the embassy or consulate of the country they wish to visit.
For nonimmigrant visas, you can go directly to the online application for the DS-160; or for immigrant visas, directly to the USCIS site for the relevant forms. If you are unsure, please use the Visa Wizard below to help you determine your visa type.
The Consular Section is committed to the protection of U.S. citizens at home and abroad. We protect U.S. borders by facilitating travel for legitimate visa applicants while screening out persons who might do us harm or are otherwise ineligible for a visa under U.S. immigration laws. We ensure the safety and welfare of U.S. citizens living or traveling overseas by providing both routine and emergency services. At all times, we strive to provide quality service consistent with U.S. laws and regulations.
The Consular Section is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday (except on U.S. and Guatemalan holidays).

Central American Minors Program
The Central American Minors (CAM) program was established to provide certain minors in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras the opportunity to be considered for refugee resettlement in the United States and to discourage those individuals from undertaking the dangerous journey to seek entry into the United States to join family members.
Changes in visa services due to COVID-19
Due to the ongoing pandemic and for the safety of our customers and staff, the United States Embassy in Guatemala City remains unable to resume all routine nonimmigrant visa services at this time. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date.
Do you want to work legally in the United States and earn money for you and your family? The H-2 visa program makes this possible. Applicants can work temporary jobs in agriculture, construction, forestry, and many other industries. The H-2A visa is for temporary agricultural jobs, while the H-2B visa is for temporary non-agricultural jobs.
