Visit to National Park Yaxhá in Petén

Ambassador Todd Robinson and Deputy Chief of Mission, Charisse Phillips, visited Yaxhá National Park as an initial part of a tour to recognize the various projects the United States supports in the department of Petén in Guatemala.

Both U.S. officials took advantage of their presence in one of the prominent areas of the Maya Biosphere Reserve to ratify their country’s commitment to continue to support Guatemala for the protection of the cultural and natural heritage found in Petén as a responsibility towards an environment that offers an inheritance for the world.

Territorial Governance and sustainable management in different areas of the Maya Biosphere Reserve are a result of the responsibility assumed by communities and NGOs in the area with the support of USAID Guatemala, in addition to the leadership of the Government of Guatemala for sustainability and Conservation of the area.
