Ambassador Luis E. Arreaga visited Huehuetenango together with the President of the Government of Guatemala, the Commissioner of PRONACOM, and the Minister of Defense, to learn about the progress of the exercise “Beyond The Horizon 2019,” a training between the U.S. Army and the Guatemalan Army to respond to natural disasters.
Members of the U.S. Army worked with the Guatemalan Army for three months to provide free medical care to more than 14,000 Guatemalans in that area and veterinary care to more than 3,000 cattle, in addition to rebuilding three schools and a medical clinic. During his visit, the Ambassador observed the joint work of the armed forces of both countries, when a child was surgically intervened to heal his hand.
“Beyond the Horizon” will conclude on July 27 and contributes to the prosperity and governance of regions affected by accidents. We thank the people of Huehuetenango for their hospitality and for working with us to help improve the lives of many Guatemalans.
